Born on October 6, 1963, in Darbhanga, Bihar, Sanjay Mishra graduated from the National School of Drama in 1989 and began his career with television shows like Chanakya and the cult sitcom Office Office, where his portrayal of the bureaucratic “Shukla” became an instant icon. Moving to Mumbai in the early 1990s, he played small but memorable film roles in Satya and Dil Se, gradually carving his niche through disciplined character work.His breakthrough arrived with Ankhon Dekhi (2014), winning the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor (2015), followed by the Zee Cine Critics’ Choice and a Jury Prize at the Jagran Film Festival. He further solidified his range with Masaan, earning the Zee Cine Award for Best Supporting Actor (2016) and the Grand Jury Prize at the Los Angeles Indian Film Festival. In 2022, his intense performance in Vadh won him a second Filmfare Critics’ Best Actor Award and multiple digital honours. An acclaimed performer across platforms, Sanjay has acted in over 200 films, seamlessly moving from comedy (like Phas Gaye Re Obama and Golmaal) to hard-hitting dramas like Newton and Kadvi Hawa, each rooted in human realism.
